Starting to Camp
Now that we are pretty much done taking advantage of the hospitality of our friends, Scott and I are going to be doing a LOT of camping. We’re easing into it- last night we stayed at one of those KOA campgrounds where they’ve got a pool, washing machines, electric hookups, even bathrooms with shower, soap dispensers and paper towels. Paper towels! Clearly we were basically staying in an outdoor motel.
But it was good to finally set up our sleeping arrangements. I’m sure that Scott will be talking ad nauseam about his but the good news so far is that IT DOESN’T FALL DOWN!
Predictably I’m much more excited about my tent- it’s more typical than Scott’s setup but between the super-fast setup, my fat comfy air mattress and the lantern hooks and other nooks and crannies it’s very homey and comfortable. The tent has just one continuous pole which helps the setup quite a bit. It’s always the worst part of setting up a tent, isn’t it- wrestling multiple poles, trying to bend them together and always messing up and causing everything to collapse? So anyway that’s a relief.
We have yet to get into any kind of a rhythm so progress is slow going. We’re stopping quite a bit for food or in this case for WIFI. Ideally in the future we’ll be able to combine activities so we can eat, charge electronics, and post at the same time, but for the moment we’re finding that middle America doesn’t seem to care about free WIFI in their restaurants as us city folk do. Or at least they don’t advertise it.
