Outstanding Federal Court Decision

A Federal Court has issued a ruling against the Bush Administration’s claims to executive privilege. I’ve always gone back and forth on this power of the executive because it seems that it is so ripe for abuse. I understand the need for it, but it’s scope must be very narrow to avoid said […]

Distracted From Driving

Scott and I haven’t gone very far lately. We left Joey and Alice’s too late to get much driving done on Monday, and have been lazy ever since, getting up past noon and trying to make camp before it gets dark out.
Today we procrastinated by having a long discussion about death. I think it was […]

Mom’s House

After finding out that we were so close to the house my mom grew up in, I had to go take a look. Using the bluetooth helmet set up, I was able to talk to my mom and have her give me directions to the right place as I called out what I saw. […]

Fun With Joey and Alice

We’re shoving off tonight and saying goodbye to family friends of Brendan’s. Joey and Alice Smith have put together the kind of hostliness that has been blowing our minds this whole trip. I think this stop has been my favorite of the trip thus far and I can’t say enough about what fun […]

Leaving Madison

Can’t rave enough about the last couple of days. Madison, WI was an awesome town and we’re about to cap it off with some more Ian’s Pizza before heading north. More on the way

my periodic salon.com annoyance

So, I used to read Salon, kind of a liberal site about politics and pop culture, quite a bit. They’ve got lots of good stuff- interesting blogs and articles- but for some reason I sorta lost interest, and sometimes when I visit I’m reminded how it just wasn’t a good fit. It’s weird for me […]

The Dark Knight

We saw The Dark Knight this afternoon. I think the thing I like the best about it is that its one of those movies that rewards thinking about what it “means”. Several hours later I’m remembering events and nuances and connections that deepen the themes of the movie for me.
Probably my second favorite thing was […]

Scott and Brendan Rebel

One thing that Scott and I share pretty deeply is a distaste for the way that society imposes on us norms that we disagree with. Probably neither of us never fit very well into the standard slot that a young white male should fit into. Or at least as far as I can tell. And […]

Toronto Island Park

On day 3 of our Toronto visit with Greg ad company, we took a ferry to Toronto Island and enjoyed a day at the beautiful park there.

We took a while to get ourselves ready, stopping at the mall for lunch and to pick up some supplies, but by the time we arrived and settled in […]

1 Month In!

Today marks the 1 month “anniversary” of our departure. We’ve had an amazing time so far and I can’t believe that we’re only about a quarter of the way in. And we still have a ton of the continent to see yet.

Today in Chicago

I’m several days behind on my blogging, so expect more posts about Canada and Michigan, but I had to write about what happened today in Chicago near Wrigley field.
Scott and I visit the home of the Cubs, and then take a walk back into town to check out all the restaurants going on. We’ll try […]

Blogging Live In Chicago

We’re currently…as in right now…hanging with some awesome people in a new restaurant in Chicago. It’s right next to wrigley field and it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had. These guys are amazing and we’re having a blast….Ian’s Pizza. Check it out. Back to the good times.
