I’m a Sexist, Apparently: vol. 2

This has been all over the blogosphere lately, but if you haven’t seen this ridiculous response from the NY State chapter of NOW to Ted Kennedy’s endorsement of Obama, it’s somewhat shocking. Choice excerpts:

Women have just experienced the ultimate betrayal. Senator Kennedy’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton’s opponent in the Democratic presidential primary campaign has really hit women hard.

And now the greatest betrayal! We are repaid with his abandonment! He’s picked the new guy over us.

The ultimate betrayal! That’s too rich. I consider myself a feminist, and I understand that the members of NOW are justifiably excited over Clinton’s campaign. But whiny tantrums like this hurt the cause, and refusing to acknowledge the possibility that she won’t make as good a president as Obama reveals a little bit of (gasp!) sexism.

(they will of course say they support a woman president, just not “this” one).

This is meant to be sarcastic, but they hit it right on the nose. There are probably hundreds of millions of Americans who would be ecstatic to see a female president. That doesn’t mean they are obligated to vote for the first one to come along who has a chance.
